Boys water polo: CdM’s Gentry to UCI
CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High senior Garrett Gentry, the
Pacific Coast League MVP and a first-team All-CIF Southern Section boys
water polo performer, has signed a letter of intent to continue his
career at UCI.
Gentry, who as a 6-foot-1, 195-pound two-meter man and captain, helped
lead the Sea Kings to the CIF Division II championship last fall, chose
UCI over UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, USC and Pepperdine.
“I think it’s a better situation for me to develop my skills and the
coach (Ted Newland) is real motivated to have me,” Gentry said.
Gentry, a member of the national junior team for zone 7, expects to shift
to driver or utility at the next level. He is undecided on a major.
