Girls track and field: Trojans beat the Eagles, 96-37

IRVINE - Estancia High’s girls track and field team scratched a

couple of its runners while it welcomed one back in the fold.

The Eagles did not run Hanni Geider in the 100-meter dash during

Wednesday’s Pacific Coast League dual meet with host University. Estancia

also limited Liz Huipe to two events, the 1,600 and a leg in the 1,600

relay.

On the other hand, Estancia saw Erica Jenning make her ’00 debut. She was

fourth in her first race, the 400, but came back and won the 300 low

hurdles in 52.02.

“It’s her first time running the event this year and she came within a

second of her PR,” Estancia Coach Joan Carlisle said.

While Geider didn’t run the 100, her twin sister, Jasmine Geider, won in

13.08. The Geider sisters were also involved in a close 200. Hanni won in

28.01. Jasmine was third with a 28.2, a dead heat with Uni’s (3-1 in

league) second-place finisher.

Huipe, a junior who had two top 12 finishes in the Orange County

Championships, ran one individual event, the 1,600, where she was second

in 5:53. She also ran the leadoff leg of Estancia’s 1,600 relay squad,

which ran alone.

“With her coming off the Orange County championship and the league

prelims next Tuesday, we wanted to keep her as relaxed as possible”

Carlisle said.

Estancia (0-4) held most of its distance runners to one individual event.

The Eagles’ Stephanie Melendez and Janet Cahuantzi did finish second and

third in the 3,200 with respective times of 13:30 and 13:37.

In the field events, Estancia’s Violetta Vega was second in the shot put

with a toss of 27-0. The Eagles’ Diana Alderete was third in the discus

(87-11 1/2).
