Longtime Newport Beach resident Betty Boyvey died of natural causes in
her home on April 19. She was 95.
Born Nov. 11, 1904, in Stennett, Iowa, Mrs. Boyvey was the second of five
children.
Following her 1927 graduation from Iowa State University with a degree in
home economics, Mrs. Boyvey taught high school French and English classes
in South Dakota. She also took on the responsibility as head coach of the
girls basketball team, although she had to read a book to learn about the
game herself.
In 1928, she married Harold Boyvey. They had two sons, Roger and Douglas.
Besides being a stay-at-home mom, Mrs. Boyvey threw all of her energies
into volunteer work. Be it the local PTA, the March of Dimes or the Child
Guidance Clinic of Orange County, she gave all of herself. She continued
her volunteer work until she was 90.
Mrs. Boyvey is survived her son, Roger, and daughter-in-law, Mary, both
of Berkeley; and by nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the country.
She was buried at Westminster Memorial Park on April 20.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s
Presbyterian Church, 600 Saint Andrews Road, Newport Beach.
In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions to the Orange County
March of Dimes, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Orange County
Arthritis Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Assn. of Orange County or the
Newport Elementary School PTA.
