Finally, the Angels are in the win column
Taking on the Dodgers in the sixth week of Ocean View Little League
Majors Division play, the Angels rode the dominant pitching of Justin
Chambers and Scott Melchert to a 2-0 victory.
Chambers and Melchert threw three innings apiece, and the duo combined to
limit the Dodgers to just one hit, a single by Alex Tonjes.
Dodger pitchers Greg Gonzalez (three shutout innings) and Stephen Donahue
went toe-to-toe with their Angels counterparts, and the ballgame was
scoreless heading into the top of the sixth inning.
There, Melchert and Thomas Burns each walked to start the frame. Melchert
went on to score on a Dodger error, and Burns was singled home by Troy
Davis.
The damage might have been more, but Tonjes made a great catch in left
field to prevent the Angels from scoring again.
The Dodgers also put runners the tying runs on base (second and third)
with two out in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t score.
In other games:
Astros 8, Mariners 3
Trey Valbuena threw three shutout innings and Dallas Walters hit a
two-run home run to power the Astros; Andy Chersin tripled and scored to
lead the Mariners.
