Yanks, Marlins each win two

The Yankees and Marlins emerged unbeaten in Fountain Valley Little

League Majors Division action last week, each beating the same opponent

twice at Mile Square Park.

The Yankees two wins came at the expense of the Cardinals twice (9-1 and

12-3), and the Marlins topped the Royals twice, 5-2 and 9-4.

The division race opened up a bit when the Dodgers handed the first-place

Mariners their first loss of the season, 3-1. But the Mariners drew even

in a later game, beating the Dodgers, 9-4.

Yankees 9, Cardinals 1

John Larner had an RBI double, singled, and pitched five solid innings,

and Kevin Bourbonnais had an RBI single to lift the Yankees; Ricky Rea,

Corey Ferraro, and Mike Maghy each singled twice to lead the Cardinals.

Yankees 12, Cardinals 3

Mark Cubberly had two singles and two RBI, Jason Allen doubled with two

RBI, Roger Huffman tripled, Jeff Mitchell had a hit and RBI, and Phil

Burden singled twice for the Yankees; Greg Nakatani’s RBI single paced

the Cardinals.

Marlins 5, Royals 2

Jessey Cordero singled and doubled, Martin Duran singled twice, Mauricio

Onofre had a two-RBI single, and Jeff Spirk had an RBI double, and the

pitching trio of Cordero, Michael Britt, and Spirk combined to hold the

Royals hitless.

Marlins 9, Royals 4

Jordan Brown singled twice with an RBI, Michael Britt singled with two

RBI, and Jeff Spirk had an RBI for the Marlins; Brian Kacoullas singled

twice, Dustin Jamison had an RBI single, and Daniel Elo and Jeff Long

each drove in a run for the Royals.

Dodgers 3, Mariners 1

Tommy Delicce threw a complete game four-hitter, Joel Stanton went 3 for

3, Sean Atchison had an RBI single, and Travis Koehler doubled as the

Dodgers upended the previously unbeaten Mariners, who received a pair of

singles from Octavio Gomez and a triple from Ryan Buckles.

Mariners 9, Dodgers 4

Tim Nash’s three-RBI double in the second inning sent the Mariners on

their way to the win. Josh Larson singled twice and doubled to pace the

Mariner offense; Sean Atchison singled, doubled, and had two RBI, Tommy

Delicce had two doubles and an RBI, and Joel Stanton singled twice to

power the Dodgers.
