HB Lightning second at OC Cup

The HB Lightning of AYSO Region 143 (Westminster/Huntington Beach)

earned a second place finish last weekend at the Orange County Cup

tournament held in San Juan Capistrano.

The Lightning, a girls Under-14, Division 3 (Advanced Player Program)

team, won first place in their pool by scoring shutout victories over a

pair of Region 85 (Lake Forest) teams by scores of 3-0 and 1-0, and

claimed a 2-0 win over Region 630 (Rancho Santa Margarita) to advance to

the tournament’s championship game, where the Lightning fell to Region

624 (Walnut).

Members of the HB Lightning include Jessica Abdou, Megan Bell, Shauna

Brown, Tara Fox, Aubrie Fuette, Jessica Goud, Gena Johnson, Nina Kratter,

Caitllin McGinnis, Ann-Mari Osgood, Janet Peterson, Hilary Pohlman,

Lindsey Rodgers, and Lauren Stimmler.

Fountain Valley 1, NHB 0

Nadeem Abdo scored off an assist from Richie Unfried, and goalies Alex

Gallardo, Jason Frazier, Jordan Black, and Danny Shoop combined for the

shutout in leading Fountain Valley past North Huntington Beach.

Hurricanes 1, San Clemente 1

Ian Gould scored a breakaway goal in the second quarter and goalie Brett

Webber finished with 10 saves -- including six in the opening quarter,

the lead the Hurricanes in the tie at Peterson Elementary School in

Huntington Beach.
