Drummy tops competitive field to win Pro/Am title

Chris Drummy of San Clemente emerged from a stacked field Wednesday

to win the Pro/Am Division title at the first event of the Huntington

Beach Pro/Am Surf Series 2000, which overcome early morning fog to stage

a successful debut at the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.

Drummy turned heads during the final round of competition, where he

scored a 9.5, which was the top score of the heat. Drummy went up against

the likes of Encinita’s Brad Gerlach, Newport Beach’s Richie Collins,

Hawaii’s Noah Burdo, and Huntington Beach’s Jeff Deffenbaugh.

But it was Huntington Beach’s Brandon Tipton who rose to a No. 2 placing,

with Adam Virs taking third place. Fourth place went to Mike Hoisington,

Collins shared fifth place with David Giddings, and both Gerlach and Tim

Frisk tied for seventh place.

Other winners included Colin Schidhaur (Super Groms), Todd Hutton

(Juniors), Brett Simpson (Boys), Greg Eisele (Mens), Mike Denicola

(Masters), Mike Gillard (Longboards), and Liz Kampen (Womens).
