Girls swimming: CdM touches out foe

CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High senior Melinda Tucker came

from behind on the anchor leg to win the 400-yard freestyle relay,

helping the host Sea Kings to an 87-83 nonleague girls swimming victory

over El Modena Monday.

Tucker also won the 100 backstroke, while teammates Christina Hewko and

Lauren Powers each won a pair of individual events for CdM (3-0).

In the boys meet, CdM seniors John Graass, Garrett Gentry and Morgan

Johnston all won two individual events apiece to pace the Sea Kings to a

131-39 triumph over the Vanguards.

Graass won the 200 and 500 freestyle events, while Gentry won the 100

free and the 100 backstroke. Johnston topped the field in the 50 free and

100 breaststroke.

All three also took part in the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays to

help the Sea Kings improve to 2-1.

CdM’s boys and girls meet Northwood in Pacific Coast League action

Wednesday.
