ON THE AGENDA

Board to establish oversight committee

What to expect: The Newport-Mesa Unified School Board will consider

adopting specific guidelines for a citizens oversight committee and other

panels to deal with the proposed school bond. Guidelines will include the

purpose, operation, organization and membership criteria for each group.

The guidelines were developed and discussed during special study sessions

regarding Measure A, a $110-million school bond on the June 6 ballot.

The oversight committee will track spending of Measure A dollars to

ensure they are spent only for projects listed in the facilities master

plan.

District to set guidelines for facilities program

What to expect: The board will look at further defining the guidelines

for the facilities repair and replacement program and the reserve fund.

When the board voted to put Measure A before voters, it committed to

developing these funding sources to maintain school facilities once they

are repaired. Details of those funding sources will be further defined

under the proposed resolution.

Newport Coast Elementary School construction update

What to expect: Project Services West Inc., the firm overseeing the

construction of Newport Coast Elementary School, will give the board an

update on the project’s progress.

Five-year enrollment estimates

What to expect: The board will be receive a report on the preliminary

enrollment projections for the next five years. These estimates will be

updated several times this spring. The first update is used for

preliminary budget numbers. It is prepared by an outside demographer and

adjusted by the district.
