Crew: OCC men wins three races

NEWPORT BEACH - Orange Coast College’s men’s crew team captured

three of six races Saturday in a regatta with Chapman, Loyola Marymount,

UCLA, UC Irvine, UC San Diego and San Diego State at Lido Island.

OCC swept the men’s races, including a tight finish in the varsity eight,

edging UCSD. The Pirates’ Todd Seligman, Mike McGuiness, Jeff Larson,

Junsik Hyun, Dan Toth, Aaron Clousing, Luke Wright, Tyson Hellmich and

Sam Yost finshed in 6:06.4.

The Pirates won the vovice four in 7:34.2, and the vovice eight in

6:25.4.

OCC’s Evelyn Powers, LeAnn Nguyen, Amber Decker, Stephanie Boyer, Jessica

Griffin, Veronica Karpinski, Shannon Lyle, Kellie Wilder and Sarah hill

was second in the varsity eight race for the Berg Cup, just ahead of

Loyola Marymount. It’s time was 7:11.6, one second better than the Lions.

The Pirates’ Novice eight team finished fourth in 7:38.7.
