ON THE NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL AGENDA

REQUEST TO ALLOW FOR RECLAIMED WATER TO HARBOR RIDGE

What to expect:

The council will decide whether to approve the Harbor Ridge Homeowners

Assn. request to receive reclaimed water from the Irvine Ranch Water

District.

The water would be used to irrigate the neighborhood’s greenbelt areas.

The City Council must grant the water district permission to provide

reclaimed water service within Newport Beach boundaries, according to

state law.

The project would cost more than $400,000 and would be paid for by the

Harbor Ridge Homeowner’s Assn., according to a report prepared by Don

Webb, the city’s director of public works.

DISCUSSION OF EXISTING GENERAL PLAN

What to expect:

The Council will discuss whether it should, and how it could, update its

General Plan -- a framework of guidelines for future development.

At its last meeting, the City Council requested planning staff put

together a report outlining the city’s current General Plan, which

contains parts that haven’t been updated in more than 20 years. The

report was distributed to the council last week.

It explains how each of the seven elements of the General Plan could be

revised.

These elements include land use, traffic circulation, housing,

conservation, open space, noise and safety.

The report also identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the current

General Plan.
