We asked residents at Eastbluff Village Center:
Should Newport make a deal with South County on El Toro?
“I think it would help the economy if the airports were built. South
County won’t really have any problems after El Toro is created.”
MATT ROBINS
Newport Beach
“Their idea is that they don’t want an airport any place near them.
They’ll sacrifice the whole county so they can avoid that. They could
care less if John Wayne gets expanded, which I’m sure it will.”
STEVEN PETERSON
Newport Beach
“I don’t understand why anybody would want to expand John Wayne. It’s
empty. I take my boss to John Wayne every other week, and it’s always
empty. What’s the huge deal about this? What’s the problem? Maybe it’s
noise, but the noise isn’t so bad.”
ALLISON MORGAN
Costa Mesa
“It’s a very sincere proposal. South County wants to be friends with
Newport. It’s not only about this issue but about a lot of other issues
that wll come up down the road. We’re decidedly the underdog in terms of
the number of people, but there’s a lot of influence here. If they
support us, we’ll support them.”
JULIA GARRETT
Newport Beach
“I really don’t know what their motive is. With the way Orange County
is growing, they’re going to have to do something eventually. Of course,
it’s a money thing, too.”
