COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College’s baseball team is trying to pick
itself off the Orange Empire Conference mat, knocking off visiting Santa
Ana, 6-5.
Mike Carey threw eight solid innings to earn the win, walking none, while
striking out seven for OCC (7-14, 2-8 in conference). After allowing four
runs early, he retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced.
After dropping seven straight games, the Pirates have won two of their
last three, with both wins coming against OEC powerhouses Riverside
(18-4-1, 6-3) and Santa Ana (18-2-2, 7-2-1).
Eric Wiethorn (Corona del Mar High) capped a six-run fifth inning with a
two-run double, while Ryan France’s sacrifice fly gave the Pirates the
lead for good.
Drew Parkin had a shaky ninth inning, but managed to strike out Carlos
Pasillas with runners on first and third to end the game.
OCC will host Fullerton Thursday at 2 p.m.
