Boys volleyball: Sailors win two

HUNTINGTON BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s boys volleyball team made
it two in a row Friday at Edison High in the Orange County Volleyball
Championships.
The Sailors (9-2) defeated Esperanza, 15-13, 13-15, 15-9, then knocked
off Laguna Beach, 15-11, 15-7, to advance to the championship bracket of
the tournament.
Billy Clayton had 17 kills, while Blake Tippett and Dustin Illingworth
each chipped in with 10 kills in the win over Esperanza.
Setter Kent Turner dished out 42 assists for the Sailors.
In the win over Laguna Beach, Jimmy Sanders had eight kills, while Brian
Gaeta added six.
Newport will continue its tournament action against Mater Dei today in
the final round of pool play at 10:15 a.m. at Edison High.
