HB Pro/Am Surf Series returns

The Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series returns to the scene this

weekend with the first of eight events scheduled for the 2000 season.

The first competition is slated for Saturday and Sunday at the south side

of the Huntington Beach Pier, and this year’s Series is set to offer the

largest prize yet in the its history, including a $2,000 first place

Pro/Am Division prize for the double-rated contests, and a $1,000 first

place prize for the single-rated events.

In addition, the first place overall rated winners in the Pro/Am Division

will win a round-trip ticket to Indonesia, $1,000 cash, and a $500

shopping spree at Ron Jon Surf Shop at The Block. Each amateur division

winners will win a round-trip ticket to Cabo San Lucas.

Each of the eight competitions held during the season will be run over

the course of two days.

The format is four-man heats, with the top two advancing. Due to limited

space, competitors are encouraged to pre-resigter to guarantee their

entry into the competition.

“We’re expecting another great season of competition,” Seth Matson of the

HB Pro/Am Surf Series said. “We have some great surfers on hand.”

Following the weekend’s competition, an awards ceremony and raffle will

be held Sunday night (7:30 p.m.) at Duke’s at the Pier.

“Raffle tickets are priced at $1 each, and the first $30 bought is

donated to the SurfRider Foundation, to help keep our oceans clean,”

Matson said.
