Angels, Dodgers, Pirates victorious on Opening Day

The Seaview Little League Majors Division race got underway last

Saturday, with the Angels, Dodgers, and Pirates all posting Opening Day

victories.

Angels 4, Reds 2

Winning pitcher Nick Leone went the distance, striking out eight while

allowing four hits. Leone, Sean Richards, Jake Pinkham, Zach Duerhing,

and Nick Bauerschmidt all had singles, and Johnny Schoenberger doubled

for the victors. Cory Kindness went 2 for 3, Valle Fluss doubled, Scott

Davis singled, and Fluss and Michael Sheedy combined on the mound to

strike out seven for the Reds.

Pirates 8, Cardinals 5

Cort Ross doubled among two hits, Nick McEachin hit a ground rule double,

Paul Vitali and Sean Wheeler both doubled, and Blake Freeze and Brian

Adsit each had a pair of hits for the Pirates, who rallied with a

five-run fifth inning to pull out the win. Nathan Grego tripled to lead

the Cardinal offense.

Dodgers 7, Yankees 6

Thomas Stadfelt went two for two with two RBI, Jayson Hayes tripled with

an RBI, Shane Van Herk doubled, and Greg Davis’ fifth inning RBI drove

home the winning run for the Dodgers, whose pitching duo of Hayes and

Mark Cassidy combined to strike out 12. Alex Halazn had a base hit and

home run and Danny Higgins doubled and singled for the Yankees.
