AYSO Region 97: Silver All-Stars go win two

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Beach Silver All-Stars had two wins and
a loss in the final weekend of AYSO Region 97 Division 5 girls all-star
action.
In game one, Sara Gomez had two goals, while Lauren DeVoy had another in
a 3-0 victory over Corona del Mar.
Cassidy Gaynor added two assists, while Kristina Heimstaedt had one
assist.
Gomez scored the lone goal in Newport’s 1-0 win over South Irvine in game
two from an assist by Ally Schatzlein.
In a defensive battle, strong play was turned in by Courtney Taylor, Clea
O’Kieffe, Katy Storch, Maggie Bernay, Alex Barton and Amy Snyder.
In the final game, Newport fell to North Irvine, 2-0. Katie Puccio played
a strong game in goal all weekend long for Newport Beach.
In other Division 5 girls action:
Newport Gold 1, Costa Mesa 0 - Leslie Boler scored the lone goal for
Newport Gold in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Costa Mesa.
Samantha Hill, Alice Cope, Rachael Foster, Katherine Farmer, Rachael
Baugh, Lily Dierkes and Brittany Patch-DiFiore led the offense, while
Katie Kay assisted on the goal.
On defense, Laura Clayton, Leanne Dickenson, Sarah Cope and Megan Toman
shut down Costa Mesa, while Tia Shefflette and Gina Krotee played solid
as goalkeepers.
In Division 5 boys action:
Costa Mesa 1, Newport All-Star Rhinos 0 - In the final game of the Area Q
Tournament, the Newport All-Star Rhinos came up short against Costa Mesa,
1-0.
Andrew Kaban, Garrett Heiser, Jamie Galey and Nicholas Sheffield helped
to shut down Costa Mesa.
The offense was led by Calvin Jhunjhnuwala, R.J. D’Cruz, Erik Bonn and
Taylor Friend, while Brandon Parole, Kyle Caldwell, Gerardo Avila and
Adrian Buonanoce controlled the midfield.
Andrew Wilson and Jake Kalwitz each had opportunities to tie the game,
but it was not to be.
