MELBOURNE, Australia - Lindsay Davenport is getting plenty of work
in under her belt at this year’s Australian Open.
Davenport, from Newport Beach, along with her partner Corina Moranio
advanced to fourth-round action in women’s doubles following Monday’s
6-0, 6-1 win over Sabine Appelmans and Rita Grande.
Her doubles win came less than 24 hours after defeating Russia’s Anna
Kournikova, 6-4, 6-3, in singles action.
Davenport will take on Julie Halard-Decugis in quarterfinal action today.
Already with two grand slam titles under her belt (Wimbleton, 1999; U.S.
Open, 1998), Davenport is looking for her first Australian Open title.
Martina Hingis is the three-time defending singles’ champion, while
Hingis and Kournikova won the doubles’ crown last year.
