NEWPORT BEACH -- Tickets for the evening lectures in the Distinguished
Speaker Series nearly sold out on the first day, said library board
chairman Jim Wood.
Tickets went on sale at 1 p.m. Monday and three evening lecturers --
Orville Schell, Tom Brokaw and Stephen Jay Gould -- sold out completely.
However, while seats for the dinner programs are no longer available --
there is still some seating left for the Saturday afternoon lectures. The
afternoon programs feature a discussion period and refreshments.
In addition, both Friday evening and Saturday afternoon tickets for
social activist Susan Faludi’s lectures are still available. The Pulitzer
Prize winner wrote the New York Times bestseller, “Backlash: The
Undeclared War Against American Women.” Her newest book, “Stiffed: The
Betrayal of the American Man,” explores the idea that men are angry
because their masculinity has been challenged by society on many levels.
The Feb. 11 lectures will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a discussion
period, with dinner by The Five Crowns, music by Alan Terricciano and art
by Mary Monge.
