Silver Surfer Girls beat Mission Viejo

Claire Massey ignited a second half 8-0 run, and the East
Huntington Beach Silver Surfer Girls used that spurt to pull away to a
33-21 victory over Mission Viejo in a National Junior Basketball
7th-Grade All-Net girls basketball game played at Ocean View High.
Massey scored six of her game-high 12 points during the decisive run as
the Silver Surfer Girls expanded a 13-11 lead into a 25-13 advantage
through three quarters.
Massey also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and also came up with four
steals.
Serra Scarangello pulled in five rebounds and had six steals, Maureen
Holloway finished with seven steals, Sarah Knuckles scored eight points,
Christie Nguyen added six points, Janee Ortiz tied Massey in rebounds
with six, Sarah Kling had four rebounds with three steals, and Kay-Dee
Lane rounded out a solid Silver Surfer Girls attack with four rebounds,
four steals, and three assists.

6TH-GRADE ALL-NET DIVISION
West HB 39, Tustin 20
The first-place Surf City Blues (3-0) took a 10-point halftime lead, then
put the game out of reach with an 8-0 fourth quarter run. Surf City’s
Catherine Marcoly led all scorers with nine points, point guard Rachael
Maulit, Laura Boggeln, and Susie Bartolme each scored eight points, and
Boggeln and Bartolme combined for 24 rebounds.
SOUTH HB DIVISION 3
Girls Got Game 30, Chargers 16
Stephanie Hunter scored 12 points, Hilary Poole added 10, and the Girls
Got Game’s tenacious defense limited the Chargers to just one point in
the final two quarters to erase a four-point halftime deficit.
FOUNTAIN VALLEY NJB
DIVISION 1
Martians 24, Newport Mesa 17
Ashley Courtney scored nine points and came up with six of the Martians’
team total 20 steals, but it was Yumi Tamashiro’s key basket and the
rebounding of both Jacqueline Smith and Nicci Koenig that turned the game
around. The Martians, after surrendering 13 first quarter points, limited
Newport Mesa to just four points the rest of the way.
DIVISON 2
Blue Bayou 42, Lightning 14
Taja Grouer scored five points and both Kristen Nash and Amanda Anaya
scored their first points of the season to lead the Lightning.
