Commonwealth United, a boys Under-13 soccer team from Huntington
Beach, brought home the gold medal from last weekend’s 17th annual
Holiday Classic Soccer Tournament in Anaheim.
Commonwealth United clinched the title Sunday with a 3-1 victory over
Santa Clarita United.
The squad began their march to the championship with a 3-1 win over
Tustin United, with Joel Baker leading the way with two goals. The play
of goalkeeper Paul Harer helped lead Commonwealth United in a 2-0 second
round shutout of the Brea Blaze, which set up a semifinal date with the
South Bay Pumas.
Commonwealth United found itself in a 2-0 hole at the half, but rallied
back - behind the two-goal scoring of Jeff Lauder, to pull out a 3-2
victory.
Baker led the team with four goals overall, with Lauder and Robert Peck
next with two goals apiece.
