EMINENT DOMAIN SHOULD SERVE AS LESSON FOR COUNCIL
Now that we have won our victory, I hope that the City Council realizes
the will of the voters not only in eminent domain, but in matters like
Wal-Mart, Bolsa Chica and other issues that confront the City Council
(“Eminent domain repealed Downtown,” Dec. 9).
STORY ON MADISON MOORE WAS HEARTWARMING
My children had the pleasure of being on the same soccer team this past
season with Madison Moore (“Food for thought,” Dec. 2). I have never met
more loving and devoted parents as Madison’s.
In a world where too many children are treated as accessories and not the
blessings that they are, it is nothing short of heartwarming to find a
family that would stop at nothing to find a solution to their child’s
problems. I appreciate all of their hard work and can see that Madison
improves every week and is a delightful, loving, active child who is
going to grow up to do something great one day with such love and support
that she gets from her family.
LOCALS OFFER DIFFERING VIEWS ON CART PICKUP
My opinion on the cart retrieval is I’d much rather see the city pay
$10,000 to pick up the carts and make the city look better in the
depressed areas, as well as the whole city, as opposed to them spending
$10,000-plus for their Christmas party (“City shopping for cart
retriever,” Dec. 2; “Taxpayer-funded party will be thrown today,” Dec.
9).
READER CONCERNS ABOUT TREATMENT OF BRIDGETTE BALLAS
I was dismayed when I read about the woman who was found lying
unconscious on a Huntington Beach street and who subsequently died from a
skull fracture (“Slain woman lived a ‘quality’ life, friend says,” Dec.
9).
What upset me was that the paramedics immediately took her to the Western
Medical Center in Santa Ana. What is wrong with the local Huntington
Beach Hospital or even Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach? Both of these
facilities are definitely closer than driving all the way to Santa Ana,
especially when the victim was in critical condition. Both of these
hospitals have emergency rooms, where I believe she should have been
taken.
I hope there was a good reason for this, since I would hate to have
myself or any of my family or friends treated this way.
I urge someone in the Huntington Beach city government to investigate
this matter.
