Taking it to the limit

NEWPORT BEACH -- A local company has just completed a pilot program
on extreme sports called “Xtreme Soul” that will air early next year.
“It’s a television show dedicated to extreme sports, music and the
lifestyle,” said Dave Cornelius of Runway productions. “It celebrates the
exhilaration of extreme sports and uncovers what exactly inspires people
to push the envelope.”
Extreme sports are a step beyond normal athletic pastimes. They include a
variety of sports such as skiing or skateboarding and attract enthusiasts
who like an edge of danger. A popular example is sky surfing or skiing
down the face of a jagged, snow-covered mountain.
Extreme sports is relatively new, but has attracted an increasing number
of people. Many athletes, including skate lugers, live in Newport Beach,
Cornelius said.
“It’s an inane sport where someone lays flat on a skateboard going down
hill,” he said.
Cornelius hopes the show will capitalize on the sport’s growing audience
and has been approaching a variety of networks including ESPN, FOX Sports
and NBC.
“The audience for extreme sports is growing fast,” he said. “It is the
vision of ‘Xtreme Soul’ to add a whole new dimension to extreme sports
coverage.”
