NEWPORT BEACH - Corona del Mar High senior offensive tackle Sean
Fenton announced Friday he has committed to continue his football and
academic career at Yale University.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound standout chose the Bulldogs after considering
Penn, Harvard, Dartmouth and Brown.
Boasting a 4.0 GPA and an SAT score of 1,420, Fenton said his tentative
plans are to major in economics in New Haven.
Fenton said he is anxious to become a part of a rebirth of football
success at the school, which went 9-1 this fall and shared the Ivy crown
with Brown. It was the Elis’ first Ivy title since 1989.
“I had an interest in Yale from the beginning and I felt the offensive
line coach really wanted me to come there,” Fenton said. “I wanted the
opportunity to play and I’ll be getting a great education.”
Fenton said his position will be determined, but he could see time at
long-snapper, after handling those chores this season for the Sea Kings.
He helped CdM share the Pacific Coast League championship with Costa
Mesa.
Fenton will join former CdM quarterback Mike McClellan at Yale.
