NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High seniors Jenny Meyer and Kristen
Case advanced to today’s 9 a.m. CIF Southern Section doubles semifinals
with a pair of girls tennis victories Thursday at the Balboa Bay Club
Racquet Club.
The Newport Harbor tandem (29-1) will meet a team from Claremont High in
the semifinals, after trouncing opponents in the Round of 16 and
quarterfinals.
The Sailors handled a team from Rim of the World, 6-0, 6-1, then breezed
past a duo from Calabasas, 6-0, 6-1, to move on.
Meyer and Case suffered their only loss in the Sea View League doubles
final against the Woodbridge pairing of Adriana Hockicko and Evangelina
Soriano, 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, Nov.4.
Case, playing with Audra Adams, advanced to last year’s CIF title match,
falling to Hockicko and then-partner Danielle Hustedt.
Hockicko and Soriano will meet a team from Dana Hills in the other
semifinal.
The final will be held approximately one hour after the conclusion of the
last semifinal today at the same site.
Newport Harbor sophomore Natalie Braverman lost in Thursday’s
quarterfinal, 3-6, 5-7, to Chaparral High senior Catherine Heppell.
Braverman, the Sea View singles champion, defeated Anne-Claire Ortiz-Luiz
of Rancho Cucamonga, 6-4, 6-1, in the Round of 16.
