Sun View and Oak View elementary schools are eligible to participate in
the Immediate Intervention Underperforming School Program, which calls
for the participation of 430 schools that scored in the bottom half of
the Stanford 9 statewide results in 1998 and 1999.
The accountability program was introduced by the California Department of
Education.
If the schools apply, they will receive about $50,000 to develop a plan
to improve student achievement. If they participate, the schools will be
evaluated by local and state committees that could intervene if
improvements do not result.
Westminster High School, which is part of the Huntington Beach Union High
School District, is also eligible.
