FINAL CANNERY CALL: We have one month left before The Cannery
Restaurant closes its doors forever. The property has been sold and
eventually condos will be built on the historic location.
Once an operational cannery for local commercial fishermen, the Cannery
Restaurant has served the community well over its 25-year history.
Weddings, birthdays and retirement parties, business meetings, the John
Wayne table, the Goofoffers Club, Speak Up Newport meetings, Sister City
events, Sunday Brunch cruises, the honor roll of loyal customers which
hangs in the lobby, and the city staff lunch room, all have been part of
the history of the Cannery.
The Cannery and its staff have been great for the community, helping to
raise funds for local charities, serving in leadership positions in the
Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Newport Beach Restaurant Association
and Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau, as founding restaurant
in the Taste of Newport, winners of the Chowder Cookoff, hosts of annual
Clean Harbor Day and the list goes on.
Led by owner Bill Hamilton and general manager Teri
Hadleberg, the staff alumni number more than 1,000 loyal former
employees, some of whom are back for the final month serving as waiters,
bartenders and hostesses. To Bill and his wife, Helen, the Cannery
employees were always like family. Thus the loyaltyover the years.
While Barbara and I have made dinner reservations along with Hank
and Margaret Weber and Roger and Ann Alford for the
closing night, Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, you don’t have to wait until Sept.
12th to enjoy the unique Cannery ambience and delicious food. You can
join us at one of the three Daily Pilot nights at the Cannery, Tuesdays,
Aug. 17 and 24 andSept. 7th. Watch the Daily Pilot for details.
Gather a group and enjoy the Cannery Restaurant one last time before it
becomes history on Sept. 12, 1999. You can take advantage of their great
Happy Hour half-price appetizers from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday,
enjoy the $9.95 buffet luncheon Tuesday through Saturday, enjoy the
Sunday Brunch Cruise, or a fine dinning dinner seven nights a week -- but
only for 30 more days. See you at the Cannery.
