HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Oilers will have a new chief in the fall.
The Huntington Beach Union High School District announced Aug. 4 the
appointment of Frank J. Berry as the new Huntington Beach High School
principal.
“He has many accomplishments and achievements and qualities we think
[are] a true match in a high school principal,” Supt. Susan Roper said.
Berry was chosen from more than 40 candidates, she said. Berry will
replace James Staunton, who left this summer to take over as commissioner
of athletics for the California Interscholastic Federation’s southern
section.
Berry was not available to comment, but a district report said that he
has held music-teaching positions at Ball Junior High School in Anaheim,
Glendora High School and Cypress College, and since 1992, he has been an
assistant principal at Glendora High.
While at the Glendora district, he also received the District
Administrator Award in 1998, the report said.
Berry earned his bachelor’s degree in music performance from Cal State
Fullerton, and received a secondary teaching credential from Cal Poly
Pomona and his master’s degree from Cal State Fullerton, the report said.
He plans to complete his doctorate in education this month at USC.
He also is a member of the Assn. of California School Administrators,
National Assn. of Secondary School Principals, and Assn. for Supervision
and Curriculum Development.
