Harold Reed Stevens Jr.
Harold Stevens passed away on July 13, 2011 in Huntington Beach. Harold was born November 12, 1924 in Los Angeles to Mary Ruth Stevens and Harold Reed Stevens Sr. Harold was a gymnast and cheer squad member at Bell High School. He proudly served as a 21 year old B-17 pilot during WWII. Harold learned his father’s trade as a bricksetter and went on to set many a fine brick patio. He studied English at USC and Pepperdine.
Harold married Martha Vernon in 1949 and together raised four children. They include: Brad Stevens (Kathy) Long Beach California, Kristin Stevens (Lee Adler) Ithaca, New York, Joseph Todd Stevens, Hollywood, California and Casey Stevens (Lorna), Mount Vernon, Washington. Survivors include his children, grandchildren Matt Stevens, Anna Stevens, Bo Adler, Micah Adler, Colby Stevens, Drew Stevens and Emily Stevens, Great-grand children, Giovanni Carroll, Olivia Carroll.
In the early 1960s, Harold moved his family from the San Fernando Valley to Costa Mesa. Harold had a long and enjoyable career as an English teacher at Santa Ana HS, Huntington Beach HS, Marina HS and Edison HS.
Harold married Linda Moyer in 1969 and together raised Metin Gunsay (Provo, Utah).
Harold retired to “Landmark†in Huntington Beach in 1993. Harold mastered square dancing and his youth was reborn with the loving relationship of his very special friend Marilyn (Midge) Godfrey. Harold was a prolific poet and organizer of poetry groups.
Harold carried many titles : Harold, Hal, Steve, Dad and Pops. Harold was fun loving and was guilty of pulling many legs. Harold always preferred to see the positive in people and life events.
A memorial celebration of Harold’s life will be held on Saturday October 15 from 2-4 PM at the Landmark Adult Community at 20880 Oakridge Circle, Huntington
