Pro Tem Curry moves up to mayor

A few remaining technical bugs forced the Newport Beach City Council to vote old-school at its first meeting in the new digs Tuesday night, but they got the job done: Former Mayor Pro Tem Keith Curry was chosen mayor for the coming year, with Rush Hill on his right side as mayor pro tem. Both votes were unanimous.

FOR THE RECORD:
An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that the Civic Center is in Corona del Mar. It is in Newport Beach.

Moments before, outgoing Councilman Steve Rosansky had given an emotional farewell speech.

Looking out at the new Council Chamber’s walls of windows, and audience members sitting in sleek seats, Rosansky recalled how it had been a major goal of his to sit on the new dais at least once before he left office.

“At times, I didn’t think it would happen,†he said.

Newly elected Councilman Tony Petros was sworn in to take Rosansky’s place. Curry and Councilman Ed Selich, who were both reelected in November, were also sworn in. All three ran uncontested.
