H.B. police search for man suspected of groping girl as she walked home from school
Huntington Beach police are searching for a man suspected of groping a girl as she was walking home from Spring View Middle School on Monday afternoon.
The girl told police she was walking in the area of Edwards Street and Edinger Avenue when a man approached her and touched her inappropriately.
She got away and ran home, according to police.
Police described the man as white, about 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds with brown hair. He was wearing a dark turquoise shirt and jeans, according to police.
A witness reported seeing the man enter a small black car with dark tinted windows and black rims, police said.
The Ocean View School District sent all families a notification about the incident.
“We can’t get complacent,” district board President Gina Clayton-Tarvin said in an interview Wednesday. “We always have to be on our toes as parents and educators.”
In a letter posted on the district website, Supt. Carol Hansen encouraged parents to talk to their children about the importance of walking home in pairs or groups, mapping safe routes to and from school and being aware of their surroundings at all times.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Huntington Beach Police Department at (714) 960-8811 or the Crime Tip Line at (714) 375-5066.
