Huntington Beach lifeguards are searching for a swimmer who didn’t resurface after being hit by a wave, fire officials said Friday afternoon.
Three people were wading in the ocean near lifeguard tower 18 just off 22nd Street at about 4 p.m. when they were hit by a 3- to 5-foot wave. Two people resurfaced and made it to shore, but the other swimmer did not, said fire Capt. Carl Corbin.
Huntington Beach fire and marine safety officials, police and state lifeguards are helping with the search, which is being conducted with a helicopter, boats and swimmers, Corbin said.
The swimmer’s identity was not immediately available. Officials said they will continue the search until dark.
