Fountain Valley police are getting new guns
The Fountain Valley Police Department is replacing its handguns.
The department will trade in its 75 Sig Sauer P220 .45-caliber service pistols for Sig Sauer P320 9mm models as the .45-caliber guns reach the scheduled end of their seven-year service life.
The department also will buy new holsters, magazine pouches, training magazines, handgrip modules and weapon-mounted lights. The upgrades will cost the city $24,560 after applying trade-in credit for the old guns.
The City Council agreed to the purchase Tuesday with no discussion.
Los Alamitos-based Adamson Police Products will supply the guns and all accessories except for the lights, which will come from Fountain Valley-based Surefire.
Officers tested and rated potential replacements, with the highest marks going to the Sig Sauer P320 9mm, according to a city staff report.
The city budgeted $22,500 this year for police weapon replacement, leaving a difference of about $2,000 that police recommended come from asset-forfeiture funds.
