Pursuit beginning in Huntington Beach ends when suspect jumps from freeway overpass in Norwalk
A car chase that began in Huntington Beach ended Thursday when a kidnapping suspect police were pursuing stopped on an overpass in Norwalk and jumped into a parking lot below.
The motorist was suspected of kidnapping two children, ages 6 and 7, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The chase began shortly after 2:30 p.m. after a woman called Huntington Beach police to report that a man had children in his car after a domestic incident, according to police spokeswoman Angela Bennett.
The man, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, ended up on an elevated interchange between the northbound 605 Freeway and westbound 105 Freeway in Norwalk.
Police found him in a lot about 40 feet below the overpass with at least one leg apparently broken.
The man was taken into custody and transported for treatment. His name was not immediately released.
Authorities said they were unsure whether the children are related to the driver.
