H.B. paddle-out honors late big-wave surfer Kris Camacho
Hundreds of people turned out Sunday at the Huntington Beach Pier to paddle into the waves in memory of local big-wave surfer Kris Camacho, who died Oct. 23 after a lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes. He was 39.
H20 Community Church pastor Blaine “Sumo” Sato, who is fighting cancer, led a prayer, and surfers paddled out to form a circle while holding hands and splashing in the water.
Camacho’s family has set up a fundraising web page with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for donations in his honor.
