Costa Mesa’s general fund for the previous fiscal year is showing at least a $6-million surplus, officials announced in a news release this week.
The amount comes from a preliminary audit for the 2013-14 fiscal year, which ended in June. Final audit numbers will be available in November.
It was achieved through higher-than-expected revenues, officials said, as well as disciplined spending and strong financial management.
“We are pleased to deliver to taxpayers another significant surplus,” said city CEO Tom Hatch in the release. “We look forward to discussing with the City Council and community how to incorporate the surplus into our future financial planning.”
For the past four fiscal years, the city has seen surpluses totaling $19.4 million. The largest was $7.1 million in 2012-13.
