Trees, shrubs approved for Irvine Avenue

The Newport Beach and Costa Mesa parks commissions voted to approve new trees and shrubs for Irvine Avenue, after officials cut down about 100 eucalyptus trees in September.

The Newport Beach Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission voted 4 to 2 Wednesday to accept the proposed landscaping plan, and the Costa Mesa Parks and Recreation Commission voted 5 to 0 to approve the plan.

City arborists and landscape architects recommend a mix of date palms, African tulip trees, grasses, aloes and shrubs.
