Pregnant woman taken to hospital after 405 crash

COSTA MESA — A woman who is six months pregnant was taken to the hospital this afternoon after the car she was riding in lost control and rolled over on the San Diego (405) Freeway, authorities said.

The woman was fine, save for some scrapes caused by her seatbelt and taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for precautionary reasons, said California Highway Patrol Officer Devon Boatman.

CHP officers said about 12:20 p.m. today a silver Honda Civic was weaving in and out of traffic on the southbound 405 north of Fairview Road when it lost control and rear-ended a silver Toyota Corolla in the fast lane, Boatman said.

The Corolla veered left into the carpool lane, with witnesses reporting that it rolled over two or three times, officials said.

As the Corolla tumbled, a Mini Cooper also hit it, Boatman said. The Corolla landed upright next to the median. The passenger of the Corolla was the only one taken to the hospital, Boatman said. No one was arrested or cited in the crash and the investigation is ongoing, he said.
