District has five new administrators
Laguna Beach Unified School District announced its newest five administrators this week.
Dean West is the new assistant superintendent of business services. He previously was the district’s director of fiscal services. He also owns an accounting consulting business, according to a news release.
Deni Christensen, assistant superintendent of instructional services, previously taught high school English and served as an assistant principal and a high school principal. Most recently she worked in the Capistrano Unified School District and oversaw 19 middle and high schools, the release said.
The new director of fiscal services is Shannon Soto, who is currently a middle school principal for CUSD. She has previous work experience as an account and certified public accountant.
Jerry Vlasic, the new director of human resources and public communications, comes to LBUSD as an elementary school principal from the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
Finally, the new assistant principal for Laguna Beach High School is Courtney Robinson, who comes from the same role in the Huntington Beach Union High School District, according to the release.
Supt. Sherine Smith welcomed all five to their new positions in a prepared statement.
“They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and talent to our district,†she said. “Each new administrator brings a unique skill set to the table and combined they will make a dynamic, high-functioning team.â€

LBHS cheer team needs sponsors
The Laguna Beach High School varsity cheer team is seeking sponsors to help with costs for uniforms, equipment and competitions, according to a news release. Sponsors’ logos will be displayed on Guyer Field during all home games.
The team, under the direction of Yvette Perez, recently took home several honors at a four-day UCA Cheer Camp at Loyola Marymount University. In the traditional varsity category they won four first-place awards in the areas of home routine, extreme routine, cheer and most spirited, the release said.

School bus applications due to district
School bus applications for the 2012-13 school year are now being accepted at the Laguna Beach Unified School District office, according to a press release.
A full year round-trip pass costs $305 and a semester round-trip pass is $165. School begins Sept. 4.
School bus applications have already been mailed to registered students. The applications are also available for download at https://www.lbusd.org by accessing the Parent Resources tab.
