RH announces new 4-story, furniture gallery at Fashion Island, slated for 2024

Come the spring of 2024, the Forever 21 at Fashion Island will be a long-forgotten memory when RH — previously known as Restoration Hardware — opens the doors of its new four-story, 80,000-square-foot furniture gallery.

RH and the Irvine Co. announced Tuesday the luxury furniture brand would be welcoming the business to Newport Beach. The building is expected to be situated on the ocean-facing side of the outdoor shopping mall. Some existing merchants will be relocated within the center to make room for the new building.

Construction is expected to begin mid-2022.

The company declined to state the cost of renovation and construction, but did confirm the project is consistent with allowable uses within the center.

This is the first RH furniture gallery location in Orange County, though the Corte Madera company has two locations in West Hollywood.

The Newport Beach location is expected to be larger than both West Hollywood locations, according to information listed on the company’s website. The location on Melrose Avenue is three stories and encompasses 40,000 square feet and the location on Beverly Boulevard is two stories and 21,000-square-feet in size.

Neither of those two locations have a restaurant as the Fashion Island location is expected to include. The furniture gallery will have entire floors dedicated to the brand’s furnishings in addition to a rooftop restaurant and wine bar enclosed by glass.

Additionally, the gallery will have its own in-house interior design firm and atelier to provide services, according to the plans announced.

“RH Newport Beach reflects our vision to create architecturally inspiring and immersive spaces that blur the lines between residential and retail, indoors and outdoors, home and hospitality,” said RH chairman and chief executive officer Gary Friedman in a statement. “We are proud and honored to bring this innovative design gallery to Fashion Island in Newport Beach.”

According to the RH website, the company describes its furniture galleries as “next generation” and intended to redefine and reimagine the shopping experience for customers. This will be the 25th such furniture gallery that the brand has opened.

“Blurring the lines between residential and retail, indoors and outdoors, physical and digital, we create spaces that are more home than store and inspire a new way of living,” the site reads.

The brand already currently has a storefront in Fashion Island, which is expected to remain open to guests.

“RH perfectly captures the inspiring lifestyle experience that draws discerning guests from Newport Beach and beyond to Fashion Island,” said Tanya Thomas, vice president and general manager of Fashion Island in a statement.
