Pandemic-weary residents ‘take five’ during a drive-in concert at the Camp
Locals fed up with spending weekends stuck at home with nothing to do can enjoy a musical interlude Saturday evening as Sean Oliu and the Coastline Cowboys will perform at a drive-in concert at Costa Mesa’s outdoor retail center the Camp.
Organizers say “Concerts at the Camp†is a way to uplift and entertain the community with live music — at a time when traditional concert venues are closed — while drawing attention to retail tenants still open for business and happy to serve.
“We just wanted to provide something people can’t get normally,†said Jeana de Arakal, manager of community and tenant relations for the Camp. “It’s a chance for people to take a break from all the ‘new normals’ they’ve been experiencing and enjoy some family-friendly music.â€
Participants can select and preorder dinners from surrounding restaurants and then dine from the safety of their socially distanced vehicles as they listened to the country music stylings of Disney Mousketeer Oliu and his ensemble.
De Arakal said the concert could become the first in a series of similar drive-in events designed to serve two equally important aims:
“The first goal is to provide joy and something nice for our community,†she said. “The second added layer is supporting our local businesses.â€
