Around Town: Kids’ Fishing Derby canceled in Fountain Valley

The 20th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby that was scheduled for Saturday at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley has been canceled as part of statewide attempts to slow the transmission of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Information about any rescheduling of the free event will be available at the OC Parks website, ocparks.com.
Flowerchild Festival postponed in Huntington Beach
The Flowerchild Festival, an arts and music event slated for Sunday at the Paséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach, has been postponed because of coronavirus concerns.

PacAmp announces new summer concert
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for the Island Empire Festival on July 11 at the Pacific Amphitheatre at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa.
The festival, part of the Toyota Summer Concert Series, will feature Sammy Johnson, Fiji, Anuhea, Maoli and Analea Brown, hosted by Western Conference (DJ Westafa and Big Body Cisco). More will be announced. It will start at 4:15 p.m.

Learn to play ukulele in Newport Beach
A ukulele class is scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Seaside Gallery and Goods in Newport Beach. The instructors are Kim and Pat O’Brien.
The class costs $20. Seaside Gallery is at 124 Tustin Ave.
Back Bay wildflowers are highlight of hike
Visitors can explore the bluffs above Upper Newport Bay and learn about the wildflowers that grow there during a hike from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
The meeting point is the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center, 2301 University Drive, Newport Beach. Parking is free.
Participants can expect to walk two to three miles over uneven terrain.
The event will be repeated March 29.

Matter of Craft Bottle Shop, Tap Room & Scratch Kitchen, a craft beer and pizza restaurant, has opened in Huntington Beach.

Huntington Beach Art Center to host youth exhibit
Creative Visions, an art exhibition showing works by students in kindergarten through 12th grade in the Huntington Beach Union High School District, Huntington Beach City School District and Ocean View School District, is slated to run March 20 through April 4.
The exhibition will be in the Huntington Beach Art Center, 538 Main St.
An opening reception scheduled for March 20 and a gala March 27 have been canceled.
Laguna Beach High presents ‘Beauty and the Beast’
Laguna Beach High School is scheduled to present Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” Broadway musical March 20-22 and 27-29 at the school’s Artists Theatre, 625 Park Ave.
The performing company includes more than 50 Laguna High students as well as elementary and middle school students.
