Great Park to close for special event
In preparation for its seventh anniversary, the Orange County Great Park in Irvine will be closed Monday through Friday, park officials said.
The park will reopen at 3 p.m. Saturday for the Growing the Park event, which is expected to draw about 25,000 visitors, according to a news release.
The 2012 State of the Park address will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Irvine Civic Center.
On Saturday, the park will be split into five themed zones: the Runway Zone, Back Forty Zone, Outfield Zone, Great Park Gallery Zone and Sky’s the Limit Zone. The zones will feature kite flying, field games, agricultural and military demonstrations, aerial entertainment and a fireworks finale.
The event is from 3 to 9:30 p.m., and normal park hours are expected to resume July 16.
Admission is free. Parking is $10.
