Junior art awards happening Sunday

The Festival of Arts along with the PIMCO Foundation is presenting its Junior Art Exhibitor awards at 11 a.m. Sunday.

A jury of representatives from the Foundation and the Festival of Arts selected first, second and third place winners from the more than 300 Orange County students, according to a press release.

The winners will be acknowledged, honored and presented with gold, silver and bronze medallions, and their teachers will be recognized with certificates of appreciation.

Glenn Gray named to music board

Laguna Beach Live! has named Glenn Gray as its newest board member, according to a news release.

Glenn is chief executive and president of South County Bank and is active in the Laguna Beach community, serving as a board member of the Laguna Playhouse.

“His appreciation of music, obvious financial skills and community involvement will make him a great addition to our Board,†said Laguna Beach Live! President Cindy Prewitt in a statement.

‘Criminal Minds’ cast on hand at festival Sunday

The cast of “Criminal Minds†will greet fans, pose for photos and sign autographs and enjoy the fine art from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

Actors set to attend the event include Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, Shemar Moore, A.J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness.

“I’ve been going to the Pageant for almost 30 years now and it never ceases to amaze and delight me and my family. I’m so glad I’ve been able to share this experience with my cast mates on ‘Criminal Minds’ as they have now become as passionate about it as I am,†said Joe Mantegna in a statement.

Salsa contest coming to Laguna

Rosa’s Cantina, inside Olamendis, is having a Salsa Dance Invitational Sept. 28 to 29 and is seeking salsa dancers to compete. Deadline for applications is Aug. 30. Cost is $150 per couple. Spectator tickets cost $25 to $30. A salsa pre-party will take place Sept. 28.

The competition is open to all salsa dancers, professional and amateur, who are 21 years of age, according to a news release.

Laguna Concert Band performing special concert

The Laguna Concert Band will perform 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Festival of Arts, according to a news release.

Special guest conductor will be Mayor Jane Egly. Other notable performers include Tony Ellis of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, woodwind artist Gary Gould, vocalists Linda Hughes, Randy and Ginger Hatfield, Lisa Morrice, Dave Stoneman and flutist EJ Kramer, the release said.

The concert is free for residents, with a small charge to the Festival grounds for nonresidents.
