The streak has ended.
The Laguna Beach High girls’ water polo team traveled Thursday to Goleta for a nonleague game at Dos Pueblos for a tough matchup that was a precursor for this weekend’s Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
For the first time in 64 games, Laguna, ranked No. 1 and the two-time defending champion in CIF Southern Section Divison 1, tasted defeat. Seventh-ranked Dos Pueblos knocked off the Breakers, 11-7.
Laguna’s 63-game win streak is an all-time record for Orange County prep girls’ water polo.
The Breakers bounced back from Thursday’s loss to win its first two games Friday at the Tournament of Champions, defeating Santa Margarita (7-2) and host Santa Barbara (7-6) to run their record to 13-1.
The Tournament of Champions concludes Saturday.
