The Laguna Food Pantry received a $2,500 donation from Smart & Final earlier this week.
Smart & Final recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Laguna Hills grocery store with gifts to the food pantry, located in Laguna Canyon, and a Laguna Hills school for special-needs students.
Donated funds will help pay for gas for delivery drivers to pick up donated food, rent and other general expenses. More than 300 families shop at the pantry each week.
The pantry, established in 1993, offers free groceries to low-income families and others in need, according to the organization’s website.
Needed items include cereal, canned tuna, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and pasta sauce.
Officials from churches, schools and local government agencies help fund the volunteer-staffed pantry, at 20652 Laguna Canyon Rd.
The facility is open from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.
