Readers React: Re-drawing districts based on voters: Back to ‘taxation without representation’?
To the editor: So am I to understand that if the U.S. Supreme Court requires political districts to be drawn based on the number of eligible voters and not total population, it’s OK for my child or an ex-felon or other non-voter to have no representation simply because they cannot or do not vote, even if they pay taxes? (“Supreme Court appears ready to shake up how election districts are drawn,†Dec. 8)
I was brought up to believe that we fought a war of independence over taxation without representation. So either non-voters will need to be absolved of taxes, or they deserve proper representation.
