Re “The real issues in water war,†Column, Feb. 20
I commend George Skelton for boldly laying out the issues in California’s water war. Climate change is hitting California hard, and Skelton addresses this straight on.
It is going to get worse, and it is going to require smart and strong leadership to distribute the pain best. California’s image and fortunes are going to change, for there are many things at stake.

With the current water shortage, the saying of “water, water everywhere but none to drink†comes to mind.
Fresh water accounts for less than 3% of all water on Earth — something to think about when companies pollute our rivers, lakes and groundwater.
