Ed Velandria, subway sketcher
A man looks over Ed Velandria’s shoulder as he draws a portrait of a fellow subway rider. Velandria uses a computer tablet and touch pen for his sketches. He tries to capture people who arent paying attention to him, and he has mastered the game of avoiding eye contact with his subjects. Everyone is so different, no matter how much you lump people together, he says. I guess my ultimate goal is to really capture the soul of a person. (Carolyn Cole / Los Angeles Times)
