Staff news: Social media editor, Business and Sports reporters announced
Announcing a promotion and two recent additions to The Times’ staff:
Stacey Leasca
Stacey Leasca has been named social media editor.
Stacey will work with Jimmy Orr to direct our social media strategy across the newsroom. She and her team will work with writers and editors in all sections to enhance the reporting process, assist with breaking news coverage, increase reader engagement and expand the audience for our journalism.
Stacey joined us last April and quickly became known through her lively coaching sessions, entertaining videos and fun blog posts.
Before joining The Times, Stacey was social media editor at GlobalPost, an international news outlet based in Boston. There she organized and contributed to several in-depth reporting projects, including “World Wide Weed,†“The State of AIDS†and coverage of the London Olympics.
Stacey spent several years as a print reporter for various newspapers and magazines. She’s produced and hosted many videos for several news outlets as well.
Stacey has bachelor’s degrees in education and English from the University of Rhode Island, and a master’s degree in digital and multimedia journalism from Emerson College.
Tim Logan
Tim Logan has joined the Business staff as a reporter covering housing and residential real estate.
Tim has an impressive background in business reporting, a keen knowledge of real estate and an eye for the humanizing details that bring stories to life. He comes to us from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where he wrote about the regional economy, urban development, housing and the beer industry. He was co-winner of a Gerald Loeb Award in 2011 for “Edifice Complex,†a series of articles that showed how governments in the St. Louis region spent at least $3.5 billion to encourage real estate development that brought about no net growth in the economy. Businesses simply played cities and towns off of one another, relocating to wherever incentives were most lucrative.
Tim, a 2001 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, earned an M.A. in urban affairs from St. Louis University.
Besides the Post-Dispatch, he worked at papers in Middletown, N.Y., and South Bend, Ind., after internships at the Indianapolis Star and Newsday.
Nathan Fenno
Nathan Fenno, formerly lead sports columnist and enterprise reporter for the Washington Times, has joined the Sports staff as an enterprise/general assignment reporter.
Nathan has written extensively on the NFL concussion litigation and broken stories on that and related issues. He recently completed a story on a cover-up surrounding the death of a Division III football player in Maryland, a project that exposed the school’s coaching staff and the NCAA for failing to live up to their mission of protecting college athletes.
His work has been recognized by the Associated Press Sports Editors, Associated Press Managing Editors, Investigative Reporters and Editors, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Before signing on at the Washington Times three years ago, Nathan worked at the Ann Arbor News in Michigan and the King County Journal in Bellevue, Wash., and as a freelance journalist.
